Identifying and Interrupting Microaggressions in the Workplace
60 min. duration
Description
This workshop is intended to help you identify what a microaggression can look like in a workplace setting. We will do this by defining microaggressions and giving examples of how this manifests primarily using the paper “Racial microaggressions in everyday life” (Sue, D. W., Capodilupo, C. M., Torino, G. C., Bucceri, J. M., Holder, A., Nadal, K. L., & Esquilin, M. (2007). We will also give you some tools on how to start to build your knowledge, capacity, and confidence in starting to interrupt those behaviours.
Learning Objectives
During this workshop, participants will:
1. Be able to define microaggressions and understand how they may show up in your workplace.
2. Provide attendees with the tools to begin to interrupt these behaviours in the workplace.
3. Provide some self-reflection tools to see where attendees have been complicit.
