This workshop examines the impacts microaggressions have on workplace culture and how that affects new employees. The onboarding process is critical to the retention of employees so it’s important to set them up for success in a supportive and affirming work environment. Poor onboarding leads to issues with the employee’s physical and mental health which then impacts the turnover rate and increases recruitment costs to the organization.
Learning Objectives
During this workshop, participants will:
1. Define microaggressions and discuss how they might appear during the onboarding process.
2. Explore the risks of microaggressions towards new employees and how it impacts retention. Recognize the benefits of hiring with an intersectional lens.
3. Discuss the role of employers in managing microaggressions from an HR perspective
